Govt looking to expand mobile market

18 Feb 2014

Pakistan’s government is ramping up efforts to attract new players to the mobile market through the upcoming auction of 3G spectrum, with the chairman of sector regulator the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the minister of IT visiting a string of Middle Eastern and European countries to drum-up participation in the long-delayed tender. According to ProPakistani, the two officials have also begun hinting that 4G frequencies in the 1800MHz band will also be made available alongside the 2100MHz band 3G spectrum in the upcoming sale, currently scheduled to begin in Q1 2014. The duo have held talks in Saudi Arabia and Qatar and are due to visit Turkey and UK later this week.
