Nepal approaches 20 million mobile user milestone

Figures released by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) show that the country was home to 19.86 million mobile users as of 15 December 2013, up from 19.40 million three months earlier. Market leader Spice Nepal Private (Ncell) claimed 10.87 million users, up from 10.76 million in mid-September, while state-owned incumbent Nepal Telecom (NT) had 9.00 million, rising from 8.64 million three months before. In the broadband internet segment, meanwhile, NT had 121,279 ADSL subscribers and 6,049 WiMAX customers, while other providers had a total of 87,500 users served via a combination of cable, fibre and wireless broadband technologies.
