GrameenPhone adds 1.1m users in Q4

Bangladesh’s largest mobile operator by users GrameenPhone has reported signing up 1.1 million net new subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2013 to take its total to 47.1 million subscribers at end-December, up from 40.0 million a year earlier. Average revenue per user (ARPU) fell to BDT165 (USD2.09) in 4Q13, down from BDT178 the previous quarter and also BDT178 in the year-ago quarter. Quarterly revenues rose 7% year-on-year to BDT24.3 billion (USD308 million), helped by higher devices sales driven by 3G services which were introduced in October, while EBITDA fell by 2% y-o-y to BDT12.0 billion on higher operating expenses related to 3G rollout.
