Movitel subscriber base passed three million in 2013

11 Feb 2014

According to unconfirmed local press reports, Mozambique’s Viettel Group-backed cellco Movitel saw its subscriber base pass the three million mark in December 2013, prompting the Instituto Nacional de Comunicacoes de Mocambique (INCM) to issue the company with an expanded number range, using the ‘87’ prefix. The reports note that Movitel now offers coverage to around 80% of the country, via its 2G and 3G networks.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Movitel passed the two million subscriber milestone in May 2013, one year after its commercial launch.
