Tigo DRC extends 3G coverage to cities in North Kivu, South Kivu

Oasis Telecom, which trades as Tigo DRC, has extended its HSPA+ network to a number of new locations in the North Kivu and South Kivu provinces. According to Agence Ecofin, the Millicom-backed cellco has rolled out 3.5G infrastructure in the cities of Goma, Beni and Butembo (North Kivu), as well as Bukavu and Uvira (South Kivu). According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Tigo became the fourth mobile operator in the DRC to introduce 3.5G HSPA+ technology on a commercial basis in 2Q13, behind Orange, Vodacom and Airtel. Its network went live in Kinshasa on 16 May 2013.
