NET Servicos pushes speeds to 500Mbps on fibre networks

The America Movil (AM)-owned Brazilian internet service provider (ISP) NET Servicos has begun offering 500Mbps packages over its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks. Initially, available in the cities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the offering comes bundled with television and telephone services and is priced at BRL799.90 (USD330). It provides uploads at peak speeds of 100Mbps, with a 500GB monthly data allowance. For the small and medium-sized business segment NET is providing an offering with 250Mbps uploads and a 1TB bandwidth limit at a cost of BRL999.90. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, NET Servicos is the largest cable TV operator in Brazil by subscribers, with more than four million pay-TV customers across the country at the end of September 2013.
