Telsur to roll out submarine cable to connect southern cities

4 Feb 2014

Multi-play provider Telefonica del Sur (Telsur), part of Grupo GTD, has announced plans to spend USD10 million on the construction of a 440km fibre-optic submarine cable linking Quellon and Puerto Chacabuco. The cable is expected to be completed in Q4 2014 and will improve connectivity and ensure uninterrupted access in the southern towns of Puerto Cisnes, Puerto Aysen and Coyhaique. A second deployment phase will see the telco roll out a further link to Manihuales, although no time-frame was given.
