NSN awarded new contract in Saudi Arabia

23 Jan 2014

Saudi Arabian telecoms operator Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) has selected Finland-based equipment vendor Nokia Solutions & Networks (NSN) to deploy its single radio access network (RAN) platform and refarm its 900MHz GSM frequencies to improve 3G network capacity and coverage. NSN will upgrade Mobily’s 2G, 3G (W-CDMA) and Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) networks in the central region of Saudi Arabia, including the city of Riyadh. The vendor is also providing Mobily with its network management software, NetAct and Performance Manager, to enable consolidated monitoring, management, and operation of the cellco’s 2G, 3G and LTE networks.

Further, this contract means that NSN is now Mobily’s sole radio supplier in the central region, following the replacement of existing 2G,TD-LTE network elements from other telecoms vendors.
