Antitrust agency to probe operators over competition concerns

22 Jan 2014

El Salvador’s competition watchdog, the Superintendencia de Competencia (SC), has launched an investigation following a complaint by Platinum Enterprises that it has been denied interconnection for the termination of national and international calls on the networks of five telecoms operators since 2010. The SC will investigate whether Telemovil (Tigo), CTE Telecom Personal (Claro), Digicel, Telefonica Moviles and CTE abused their dominant position by creating barriers to entry for new competitors and preventing the expansion of existing competitors.
