Tunisie Telecom sticking with Mattel for now

20 Jan 2014

The Tunisian operator Tunisie Telecom has revealed that it plans to continue with its investment in Mauritanian subsidiary Mattel. Tunisie Telecom holds a 51% interest in cellular operator Mattel and it had been looking for a buyer for the stake, with firms such as Wana of Morocco and Orange of France having been linked as potential buyers. With no firm offers having been made, however, it now seems the Tunisian firm is looking to continue backing Mattel, for the time being at least. Mattel is currently the smallest of Mauritania’s three cellular operators with an estimated 720,000 subscribers and an 18% market share as of end-September 2013, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
