Over 29,000 numbers ported in Moldova in 2013

13 Jan 2014

Moldova’s telecoms watchdog the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) has announced that more than 29,000 telephone numbers were ported by end-December 2013. According to a regulator press release, 90.7% of these were mobile numbers (26,450), while the remainder (2,709) used fixed number portability (FNP). Mobile number portability was launched on 1 July 2013, while FNP took effect on 1 August 2013.

ANRCETI director Gregory Varanita noted that the volume of ported numbers in such a short span of time ‘proves that portability works in Moldova and phone users already know about the benefits of this service’. Further, the executive stated that ‘the implementation of number portability [has] increased freedom of choice for users of services and their bargaining power with suppliers.’
