Competition authority green-lights Altice takeover of Mobius

9 Jan 2014

L’Autorite de la Concurrence, the French competition authority, has formally approved the takeover of internet service provider (ISP) Mobius/IZI by Altice Blue Two, a Paris-based offshoot of Luxembourg’s Altice Group. According to Reunion-based news portal Clicanoo, the approval was granted on 24 December 2013, and the operational transfer is anticipated to happen later this month. Following the transaction’s conclusion Mobius owner Yann De Prince has been appointed as Altice’s chief operations officer for Reunion and Mayotte, meaning that he will now also take charge of Altice’s Outremer Telecom subsidiary. However, despite promises that none of the existing brands are going to disappear, rumours abound that Altice intends to introduce the well-known Numericable branding used on the French mainland. A variant, Le Cable, is currently used by Altice in Guadeloupe and Martinique.
