Etisalat to roll out 1,500 new BTS in 2014

6 Jan 2014

Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat), the United Arab Emirates’ largest mobile operator by subscribers, increased its total number of base transceiver stations (BTS) to 6,000 by the end of last year. TradeArabia cites the company’s senior vice president for Business Planning and Technology Evolution, Saeed Al Zarouni, as saying that Etisalat plans to increase the figure to 7,500 during 2014, in a bid to boost indoor penetration. ‘Etisalat always strives to provide the highest level of service enabling customers to utilise all services over the network. Recent studies conducted by Etisalat indicate that more than 65% of mobile calls are made within buildings and premises,’ Zarouni, noted, adding: ‘Etisalat is working to increase the number of base stations over 7,500 by the end of the year with an aim to provide best telecom services in the country.’
