Bangladeshi cellco Robi Axiata has transferred the ownership, management and development of passive wireless tower network infrastructure to Edotco Bangladesh – a company within Robi’s Malaysian-owned parent group Axiata – for USD145 million. Edotco has a budget of USD50 million for 2014 to upgrade network equipment, while it will lease capacity on the towers to rival Bangladeshi cellcos. Robi’s current network consists of 6,000 towers, although it did not confirm if all these sites were involved in the deal.
