HGC and Cisco launching advanced Metro Ethernet services

24 Dec 2013

Hong Kong’s Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) has announced a collaboration with US-based technology provider Cisco, to launch ‘WiseNET’, which it calls Hong Kong’s first publicly available next generation network using the Metro Ethernet Forum Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (MEF CE 2.0) platform. The new network targets business customers looking for ‘ultra-low latency’ (less than 1ms latency), and is based on HGC’s optical fibre network and the Cisco MEF CE 2.0 certified ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers (ASR 9000). HGC says WiseNET is ‘extremely well-placed to be the ideal top-end network service for data centres and cloud service providers, while enabling financial institutions to extend securities trading networks to all branch offices.’
