Liberian president suspends Libtelco board pending government investigation in procurement violations

The president of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has suspended the entire board of national fixed line operator Liberia Telecommunications Corporation (Libtelco) with immediate effect, pending the outcome of an investigation into its alleged failure to stick to the provisions of the Public Procurement Act in concluding a contract with a European company, Ketter Telecom (K3). AllAfrica.Com reports that the investigation, which will be carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice, comes in the wake of a meeting with the Libtelco board last Friday. The board of the company comprises: Francis Horton, chairman; Ben Wolo, secretary & managing director; and members Ciata Victor, Floyd Thomas, Mohammed Sherif, James Cooper, and Jackson E Doe.
