PLDT’s Smart reports 10,000 4G sites nationwide

Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) mobile arm Smart Communications has announced that it has deployed 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile cell sites in a total of 1,000 locations across the country. According to group head of technology Rolando Pena, Smart’s 4G network coverage currently serves approximately 78.4 million Filipinos, or 85% of the population. The PLDT-Smart technical boss says that the cellular arm ‘aims to capitalise on this lead in 4G footprint and invest more on its wireless network as it anticipates an explosive growth in data traffic’. Smart’s LTE coverage, now extends to all key urban areas of the country he said, where demand for high speed mobile internet is increasing.
