MTN Cyprus expands HSPA+ network to 33 locations

MTN Cyprus, Cyprus’s second largest cellco by subscribers, has expanded its 3G+ coverage to 33 new locations across the country. According to a company press release, the HSPA+ network is now available in Palodeia, Mosfiloti, Evrichou, Korakou, Tempria, Troulli (Larnaca district), Peristerona, Polemi, Agios Theodoros (Larnaca district), Kouklia, Mari, Vasilikos, Palaichori, Drousia, Meniko, Kalopanayiotis, Pedoulas, Moutoullas, Saittas, Moniatis, Trimiklini, Kivides, Pera Pedi, Kyperounta, Chandria, Agridia, Theletra, Kato Pyrgos, Argaka, Agia Thekla, Neo Chorio (Pafos district), Troodos square and Pomos. MTN CEO Philip Van Dalsen stated: ‘MTN continues to grow and to expand its network. Our investment efforts do not stop here: in 2014 we are planning to [add] the remaining suburban areas to the MTN 3G+ network. This will mark the achievement of an ambitious goal to provide coverage nationwide, and will introduce us to the next one – that of the digital era.’

According to TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, MTN Cyprus announced the commercial rollout of its new HSPA+ network in March 2012, offering peak mobile data speeds of 21Mbps. At launch, HSPA+ was available in urban areas, covering around 40% of the population.
