Iranian wireless operator MTN Irancell has announced that its WiMAX network is now available in the town of Khorramshahr, thus bringing the total number of cities covered by the service to 38. According to a company press release, both business and residential users in Khorramshahr can subscribe to the pre-paid and post-paid packages, which offer maximum download speeds of up to 2Mbps. As at December 2013, the WiMAX network is present in Khorramshahr, Isfahan, Andisheh, Ahvaz, Tabriz, Tehran, Khomeini Shahr, Khorasgan, Najaf Abad, Shahin Shahr, Shourabad, Mahmood Abad (Isfahan), Shahr-e Qods, Atlas Industrial Park, Charmshahr Industrial Park (Tabriz), Tous Industrial Park, Shahriar, Shiraz, Fardis, Gharchak, Karaj, Islamshahr, Varamin, Dezfoul, Golestan Industrial Park (Shiraz), Sardoroud, Kashan, Andimeshk, Rey, Hashtgerd, Jey Industrial Park, Baharestan, Sabzevar, Abadan, Lavasan, Shiraz Industrial Park, Mashhad and Aras Free Trade-Industrial Zone. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, MTN originally launched WiMAX services in January 2010 in seven cities.
