Chinese vendor Huawei has announced that it has been selected by Orange Poland (also known as Telekomunikacja Polska, TP) to provide microwave backhaul equipment, as part of efforts to remove bottlenecks in the cellco’s network. The two year deal will see Huawei supply the operator with its OptiX RTN 380 solution, an E-band microwave product using the 71GHz-86GHz bands and capable of providing 2.5Gbps of bandwidth. The solution is intended to support Orange’s mobile broadband networks, including its current 3G systems and its upcoming deployment of 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE). A statement from Huawei noted: ‘With Orange Poland’s mobile broadband services developing rapidly, it has faced challenges with expensive frequency resources for traditional microwave products and difficult wireless site address acquirement impeding the bandwidth improvement for [mobile data] services.’
