Power company warned over fibre rollout

11 Dec 2013

Cameroon’s telecoms watchdog, Agence de Regulation des Telecommunications (ART), has warned power company AES Sonel that it could face penalties for failing to obtain permission for the installation of fibre-optic infrastructure, Agence Ecofin reports. Under Law No. 2010/013 of 21 December 2010, ‘Regulating Electronic Communications in Cameroon,’ the unauthorised installation of fibre-optic public communications networks is illegal and could result in administrative and financial penalties of between XAF100,000 (USD210,000) and XAF500,000.
