Verizon to boost LTE network with AWS spectrum in 50 cities in 1H14

10 Dec 2013

Verizon Wireless has revealed plans to augment its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network with advanced wireless services (AWS) spectrum in 50 cities during the first half of 2014, in a bid to avoid potential capacity issues. Verizon Communications CEO Lowell McAdam told Fierce Wireless that the process includes seeding the customer base with AWS-capable devices, as well as deploying in-building coverage and distributed antenna systems (DAS) nodes. McAdam noted that 42 of Verizon’s 49 LTE base stations in the New York metro area have already been upgraded with AWS spectrum.
