Azerbaijan to merge two state telcos

9 Dec 2013

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov has confirmed plans to consolidate two state-owned fixed line telecoms operators, Aztelekom and Baku Telephone Production Association (BTRIB). APA cites the government minister as saying that a merger between the pair could possibly be carried out next year. BTRIB (also known as BakTelekom) operates in and around the capital Baku, while AzTelekom covers the country’s other cities and rural regions, notes TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
