Barbados-based pan Caribbean internet and cable operator Columbus Networks has selected German equipment supplier Coriant to implement its 100G solution to expand the capacity of the telco’s backbone network in the US. The strategic network upgrade, based on Coriant’s hiT 7300 intelligent transport platform, includes deployment of multiple 100G optical transmission links designed to support growing demand for capacity in Columbus Networks’ Florida Transport Network, the company’s main US backbone network. Columbus Networks, with its joint venture partner CWC Wholesale Solutions, operates the largest subsea multi-ring fibre-optic network in the Caribbean region, with more than 42,000 miles of undersea fibre. The firm provides international wholesale capacity bandwidth services, corporate data applications, and data centre hosting to telcos and internet service providers across 42 countries across the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico and the US.
