With BSkyB having completed the acquisition of the fixed line operations of British mobile network operator O2 UK in April 2013, Think Broadband is now reporting that a date has been set for the discontinuation of wholesale broadband services. With Sky having begun migrating former O2 UK consumer broadband subscribers to its own service at the end of August 2013, service providers on the O2 UK wholesale network are now said to have been informed that such services will be shut down at the end of February 2014. ‘We can confirm that as of February 2014 we will no longer offer wholesale broadband services. The delivery of fibre broadband currently requires a level of scale and investment which does not fit with our strategy to focus on digital services and experiences,’ an O2 UK spokesperson was cited as saying.
