The Communications Authority of Maldives has revealed that the island nation ended September 2013 with a total of 628,157 mobile subscribers, up from 545,513 twelve months earlier, with pre-paid users accounting for the majority (554,921) of wireless users. According to the regulator, fixed broadband subscribers reached 20,741 at the end of September 2013 (up from 18,468 a year earlier), while mobile broadband customers totalled 110,623 (75,269). The number of fixed telephony lines (including payphones) fell slightly from 24,405 to 23,724 over the twelve-month period.
