Finnish telecoms operator Elisa has published its financial results for the three months ended 30 September 2013, revealing that while ‘the operating environment continued to be challenging’, revenues and EBITDA had improved against the corresponding quarter of 2012. In 3Q 2013 the company generated turnover of EUR395 million (USD523 million), up from EUR387 million a year earlier, while EBITDA for the quarter under review stood at EUR138 million, up from EUR134 million. Profit before tax (excluding non-recurring items) in 3Q13 was EUR78 million, unchanged year-on-year, while capital expenditures in the three-month period amounted to EUR57 million, up from EUR51 million.
In operational terms, Elisa’s Finnish operations counted a total of 3.919 million mobile subscribers at the end of September 2013, up from 3.875 million a year earlier, while fixed voice accesses totalled 243,700 in 3Q13, down from 268,500. Fixed broadband subscribers numbered 565,700, representing a 13.5% year-on-year increase from 498,000 at end-September 2012, though this was down from a peak of 567,000 at end-June 2013; Elisa said the decline was the result of companies reducing their number of subscriptions. The company’s Estonian unit, meanwhile, reported a total mobile subscriber base of 578,200, up from 552.200.
