Algerian telecoms watchdog the Autorite de Regulation de la Poste et des Telecoms (ARPT) has issued provisional 3G licences to all three applicants – Mobilis, Nedjma and Djezzy – after evaluating their financial and technical proposals, Agence Ecofin reports. Final licences, incorporatring the relevant coverage obligations, are expected to be granted after the payment of licence fees, satisfaction of the conditions indicated in the tender documents and receipt of clearances and approvals from various state authorities.
Under the terms set out by the concessions, the operators will be given territorial exclusivity for a period not exceeding one year. According to the outlined specifications, the first licence includes the provinces of Blida, Tizi-Ouzou Tlemcen, Annaba, Setif, Chlef, Batna, Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, M’sila, Mascara, Bordj Bou Arreredj, Boumerdes and Tipaza Mila. The second group comprises Biskra, Djelfa, El Oued, Adrar, Laghouat, Bechar, Tamanrasset, El Bayedh, Illizi Tindouf, Naama and Ghardaia. Meanwhile, the third group covers the provinces of Oum El Bouaghi, Bouira Tebessa, Tiaret, Saida, Sidi Belabbes, Guelma, Medea, El Tarf, Tissemssilt, Khenchla, Ain Defla, Souk Ahras, Ain Timouchent and Relizane.
