Regional US wireless operator Cellcom has agreed to purchase Shawano Municipal Utilities’ (SMU) internet and television networks. The offer was approved at the area’s 9 October common council meeting, while the transfer of ownership is scheduled to occur in December. Customers will continue to contact SMU for billing, technical issues and installation during the transition period. Patrick D Riordan, president and CEO of Cellcom and parent company Nsight, commented: ‘Shawano is part of our backyard, a community we consider home turf and we feel very connected with the community. With our expertise we will be able to leverage the extensive, robust fibre infrastructure that was created by SMU to deliver unmatched internet speed, exceptional TV service and multiple home phone options to Shawano residents’.
Cellcom is part of the Nsight family of companies, alongside Nsight Telservices, Bayland Telephone and St. Paul Tower. Nsight was founded in 1910 as the Pulaski Merchants & Farmers Telephone Company.
