Moussa Benhamadi, CEO of Algeria’s dominant telecoms operator Algerie Telecom, has announced that its mobile arm Mobilis has achieved positive results in the third quarter of 2013. Agence Ecofin cites the executive as saying that the company’s revenue increased 21% year-on-year to USD240 million by end-September 2013. Mobilis has also invested USD232 million in 3G technology ahead of the anticipated commercial launch of the technology by end-December 2013. In operational terms, the executive revealed that Mobilis’ subscribers surpassed the twelve million mark at end-September, with over 1.5 million net additions over the previous nine months. Further, the company’s networks consisted of around 5,2000 base transceiver stations (BTS) at 30 September 2013, covering more than 98% of Algeria’s territory.
