UK-based satellite broadband operator Bentley Walker has announced that it has activated its 2,000th very small aperture terminal (VSAT) in Libya. The announcement comes just one year after commencing operations over Avanti’s Hylas 2 satellite, which allowed it to provide Ka-band services to the local market. The company notes that its achievements in Libya follow the successful deployment of Ka-band broadband services to US military personnel in Afghanistan, augmenting existing Ku-band offerings with higher speeds at lower cost, using a smaller dish. In another move to further expand its presence in the region, Bentley Walker has recently signed an agreement with Hughes Europe for a managed network operations centre (NOC) to allow it to deploy new services in Northern Iraq.
