MTN Zambia has connected to the West Africa Cable System (WACS), with the operator’s chief technical officer Ernest Paul cited by the Zambia Post as saying that the development meant it had now completed its connection to the global network after linking to the Eastern Africa Submarine Cable System (EASSy) through Tanzania two years ago. Claiming that the new cable connection would pave the way to more reliable internet access in Zambia, Mr Paul noted: ‘The benefits of this connection will be felt across many sectors and help drive social and economic growth. We provide a wide range of business solutions on our data platform and we believe that this global connection will add value to our customers due to increased capacity and reliability.’ It is understood that MTN Zambia invested approximately USD1 million in connecting to WACS.
