Fixed line incumbent and wireless monopoly holder, Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC), has blamed a service blackout in settlements in Andros on pigeon hunters, claiming that they shot through the fibre optic cable that carries all communications in the affected area, Tribune 242 writes. A statement from the company blamed the outage on ‘gun-shooting pigeon hunters’, adding that disruption several weeks ago was also believed to have been caused the same way. Kendrick Knowles, senior manager for BTC’s field operations in Family Island, advised pigeon hunters not to shoot at birds perched on communication cables or power lines.
