Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has signed a decision approving the introduction of mobile number portability (MNP) from the start of 2017, according to a report by ICTnews Vietnam. The service, which enables subscribers to retain their number if they switch service provider, is expected to improve competition and promote development of the mobile market. Under the MIC’s plan, a central database and processing system for MNP will be in place by 30 June 2015, with trials of the service scheduled to last for six months until 30 June 2016, ahead of a full launch on 1 January 2017.
