Kyrgyz wireless operator Megacom has announced the completion of a 140km fibre-optic backbone network in the northern province of Chuy. The new infrastructure connects the capital Bishkek with the towns and villages of Sokuluk, Belovodskoye, Kara-Balta, Kaindy and Chaldovar. Megacom is Kyrgyzstan’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, notes TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, with around 2.8 million customers at 30 June 2013, representing a market share of approximately 40%.
