Vodafone New Zealand has revealed that US network specialist Ciena Corporation has completed a significant network expansion project designed to deliver low-latency ‘express’ capacity between Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Vodafone claims that the 1,500km network, which comprises terrestrial and submarine links, is one of the longest 100Gbps networks in the world and the first in New Zealand. The expansion utilised Vodafone’s existing national fibre backbone and required no re-engineering or interruption to services.
