Chinese telecoms regulator the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) may be ready to issue mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) licences as early as October this year, Marbridge Consulting writes, citing an unnamed hopeful licensee which claims to have entered into final negotiations with network operators. China’s three network operators, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, opened tenders for prospective MVNO partners in July, with applicants subject to a review period before seeking approval from the MIIT. Unconfirmed local reports claim that China Mobile has approved Dr. Peng Media group for a potential MVNO agreement, whilst China Unicom has selected Suning and Net263 and Telecom has green-lit possible deals with Gome and D.Phone.
