Slovak Telekom (ST) has announced that its commercial VDSL high speed fixed broadband service launches tomorrow under a promotional monthly tariff of EUR5.99 (USD7.96) for the first six months for any connection speed option. The next generation access (NGA) network initially covers around 200,000 households in 540 locations, with VDSL speeds available on copper local loops of up to 700 metres from ST’s fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) cabinets (a.k.a. fibre-to-the-cabinet [FTTC]), although with diminishing maximum connection rates towards the upper distance limit. VDSL packages are offered with download/upload speeds of between 10Mbps/1Mbps and 50Mbps/5Mbps. When the six-month promotion expires, an entry-level VDSL package (10Mbps/1Mbps, 2GB of monthly data) will cost EUR5.99, or EUR12.99 with unlimited data. A 20Mbps/2Mbps (unlimited) package is priced at EUR17.99, while a premium 50Mbps/5Mbps (unlimited) plan will cost EUR26.99.
