A planned increase in post-paid rates that had been scheduled to take place last week has now been suspended by Argentine mobile operators Telecom Personal and Movistar, local newspaper La Nacion reports. Following a request from the country’s communications ministry Secretaria de Comunicaciones (SeCom), the two operators have put the proposed tariff hike of between 7% and 12% on hold indefinitely. Argentina was home to around 60.5 million mobile operators at the end of June 2013, notes TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database. The market leader is America Movil-owned Claro with a market share of 33.4%, closely followed by Personal (31.9%) and Telefonica subsidiary Movistar (31.6%), while NII Holdings’ local unit Nextel holds the remaining 3.1% of mobile customers.
