Orange Switzerland, the country’s third largest mobile operator by users, has reported that its total revenue in the first half of 2013 reached CHF625 million (USD674 million) in the first six months of 2013, a year-on-year decline of 0.7%, although it noted that the drop was ‘considerably more modest than that recorded by its competitors’. The cellco’s adjusted EBITDA rose by CHF5.6 million (+3.1%) to CHF185.1 million in the six months ended 30 June 2013, while the adjusted EBITDA margin (as a % of total revenue) reached 30% (+1.1 percentage points compared with 1H12). Orange Switzerland added that its total number of customers increased by 34,000 or 2.1% in the first half of 2013 to 1.683 million. CEO Johan Andsjo stated: ‘We have continued growth in the post-paid segment, up by 69,000 customers [in the period under review], and we are maintaining stable revenue figures. The successful launch of our 4G [LTE, in May 2013] services as well as our commercial repositioning supported our solid performance. The high adoption rate of our data bundles is supporting the successful monetizing of our growing mobile data.’ TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Orange Switzerland is 100% owned by Matterhorn Mobile, a company indirectly owned by private equity firm Apax Partners. The cellco was purchased from Orange Group (formerly France Telecom) in February 2012 for USD2.21 billion.
