Bolivia’s Ministerio de Trabajo, Empleo y Prevision Social (Ministry of Work, Employment, and Social Security) is reportedly set to take over the administration of ailing telecoms co-operative Co-operativa de Telefonos Automaticos La Paz (COTEL). According to BNamericas, the government ministry will take the reins of the telco for a period of 150 days amid continued financial difficulties. It is understood that former health and sports minister Nila Heredia will head up the government team overseeing the co-op, during which the state will work towards conducting elections for new administrators and supervisors for COTEL. Further, as part of the government intervention the operators finances dating back to 2010 are expected to be audited.
