Azerbaijan’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, Azercell, plans to launch voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) services by the end of the year, Trend News Agency reports. The company also aims to expand its 4G network across the capital Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, increasing the number of LTE-equipped base stations to 250 by late 2013. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes Azercell launched its LTE network in the 1800MHz frequency band in May 2012, with commercial mobile broadband services made available the following month. At launch, coverage was present in the downtown area of Baku, including the Seaside National Park. The company had a total of 4.37 million mobile customers at the end of June 2013, giving it a 46.4% share of the market.
