El Salvador’s telecoms regulator, Superintendencia General de Electricidad y Telecom (SIGET), has issued Resolution No. T-0819-2013 which outlines plans for an auction of nationwide licences for mobile spectrum in the 1900MHz and 1700MHz/2100MHz band. A total of 20MHz in the 1855MHz-1935MHz range will be sold off, alongside a further 20MHz in the 1765MHz-2165MHz band, writes BNamericas. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that El Salvador is currently home to five mobile network operators, namely: Telemovil, which operates under the Tigo brand of its international parent Millicom International Cellular (MIC); America Movil-owned CTE Telecom Personal (Claro); Telefonica Moviles (Movistar), the local unit of Spain’s Telefonica; Digicel; and integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) operator Intelfon (RED).
