Telefonica UK has inked a deal with US-based vendor Tekelec under which the latter will deploy its Policy Server to provide the Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) for its mobile unit O2 UK’s 3G and LTE core networks. The Policy Server, it is claimed, will allow O2 UK to lower network operating costs, while also enabling it to create new mobile data services and tariff plans using a variety of criteria, including volume of data, speed, time and applications. Commenting on the deal, Tim Parker, Mobile Data Product Manager – Networks at Telefonica UK, said: ‘Tekelec’s Policy Server has the innovative features, scalability and flexibility to meet the diverse needs of network operations, IT and marketing to easily implement new policies.’
