Hutchison ups investment in fixed network

20 Mar 2013

Hong Kong’s Hutchison Global Communications, which offers residential fibre broadband and fixed telephony services under Hutchison’s ‘3’ brand, has reported that its fixed broadband (fibre-to-the-building [FTTB]/fibre-to-the-home [FTTH]) network now passes over 1.6 million homes, up from 1.5 million claimed in the fourth quarter of 2012, and over 1.4 million reported at end-2010, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database. Hutchison, which remains reliant on the business segment for the bulk of its fixed network revenues, reported that its fixed line division CAPEX grew to HKD725 million (USD93.4 million) in full-year 2012 from HKD529 million in 2011, mainly as a result of increased fibre penetration and ‘revenue-driven’ projects.
