Following an upgrade of its pan-European network, TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) says it has become ‘the first global carrier with 100Gbps networks spanning [both] Europe and North America.’ TSIC’s North American network was upgraded to 100G in November 2012, connecting 23 cities coast-to-coast, and the pan-European 100G network now stretches from Madrid to Moscow. The carrier is currently looking at options to upgrade its trans-Atlantic submarine connection to 100G. ‘For our wholesale customers, 100G means the ability to scale up capacity without scaling up complexity – and doing so cost-efficiently,’ said Erik Hallberg, president of TSIC.
The European 100G network upgrade is based on Nokia Siemens Networks’ hiT 7300 platform. In the US Infinera’s DTNX platform is used.
