Zhone Technologies, a provider of FTTx network access solutions, has announced that it has been selected by Argentine electricity cooperative Cooperativa Electrica de Lujan for a new GPON deployment in the city of Lujan through a strategic partnership with engineering firm Trans Industrias Electronicas. As the incumbent power supplier, the cooperative services approximately 40,000 customers in Buenos Aires Province and also offers internet access services to its subscribers using a variety of copper and wireless technologies. The company has now decided to deploy fibre solutions to better compete with major telecoms and cable providers in the region, choosing Zhone’s MxK 319 and zNID 2402 GPON ONTs solutions for the network to increase its bandwidth offering. ‘We plan to deploy Zhone fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) solutions to help us better position our services against competitive offerings, as well as expand our offering into areas where our competitors are currently lacking,’ said Pablo Fernandez, technical manager at Cooperativa Electrica de Lujan, adding: ‘Our decision to deploy GPON is a direct response to customer desire for bandwidth speed and affordability.’
