Potential purchase of Gabon Telecom by Etisalat under discussion

18 Mar 2013

A proposal under which incumbent telco Gabon Telecom (including cellular division Libertis) has reportedly been targeted for takeover by UAE-based group Etisalat (via its Atlantique Telecom division operating locally as cellco Moov Gabon) is undergoing high-level discussion involving the King of Morocco, according to diplomatic sources quoted by Agence Ecofin. The potential acquisition by Moov of Gabon Telecom – which is 51%/49% owned by Moroccan group Maroc Telecom and the Gabonese government – was reported to be on the itinerary of topics to be discussed with King Mohammed VI of Morocco on a state visit to Gabon.
