Craig Wireless has announced that its subsidiary, Woosh Wireless, has completed the acquisition of the remaining spectrum management rights – comprising more than 35MHz of 2.3GHz spectrum – previously held by Railway St Industries Limited in New Zealand. The transfer was completed and registered following final regulatory approval from the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. The acquisition of the spectrum management rights represents the final stage of the transaction involving the acquisition of assets of Railway which was previously announced on 10 November 2011 and 2 December 2011. Craig Wireless notes that the spectrum is ‘4G-compatible’, but has yet to reveal what it plans to do with the frequencies.
Craig Wireless and its affiliates – collectively known as the CWS Group – holds or leases licences for spectrum in the 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz, 2.6GHz and 3.5GHz bands in New Zealand, Riverside County (Southern California), Greece and Norway. Mobile broadband provider Woosh Wireless presides over a network comprising 135 base stations in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and the Southland region, providing service to more than 20,000 customers. Craig Wireless presently holds a 75% interest in the company.
