Kuwaiti cellco Wataniya Telecom has inked a deal with Ericsson for upgrades to its radio access network. Under the terms of the deal, the Swedish vendor will upgrade Wataniya’s 2G and 3G networks, as well as adding W-CDMA/HSPA capability for the 900MHz band and Long Term Evolution (LTE) capability on the 1800MHz band. Ericsson will also provide optimisation services, O&M support services, spare parts management, customer support and training. No financial details were disclosed. Wataniya has worked with Ericsson previously when the vendor upgraded the mobile operator’s GSM infrastructure and its charging and billing system.
